Kody’s PR Summary feature allows you to automate the creation of concise, actionable pull request descriptions. This configuration guide explains how to tailor the feature to suit your team’s workflow and preferences. In the sidebar, open Code review → What Kody writes; these settings are in the PR summary section. The page’s live preview (Show preview / Hide preview) shows how the summary lands on a sample pull request.

Enabling Automatic Summaries

Enable or disable the automatic generation of pull request summaries: Toggle Write a summary on every pull request. When enabled, Kody will generate summaries for every pull request, ensuring consistency and saving time.

When the PR already has a description

Control how Kody interacts with existing pull request descriptions. You can choose from three modes:

Replace (Default):

Overwrites any existing description with a newly generated summary from scratch.

Concatenate:

Appends the generated summary to the end of the existing description.

Complement:

Combines Kody’s generated insights with the current description, highlighting only what’s new or relevant.

When new commits arrive

Control what happens to Kody’s summary when new commits are pushed after the PR is opened:
  • Do nothing (default) — the summary is left as it is.
  • Concatenate new summary — a new summary is added to Kody’s existing one.
  • Replace Kody’s summary — Kody’s existing summary is replaced with a new one.

Summary instructions

Fine-tune how Kody generates summaries by providing specific guidelines: Add instructions in the optional Summary instructions field — what the summary should focus on or leave out. The Examples chips insert ready-made instructions. Examples:
  • “Focus on security changes and performance impacts.”
  • “Summarize concisely, highlighting modified public APIs.”
